Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer
John Schanz is Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer for Comcast Cable. In this role, he oversees national engineering for network and systems operations for the Company’s industry-leading video, high-speed Internet and voice cable services for both residential customers and businesses. He also plays a leadership role in technology strategy for the deployment of new, complementary communications products and services.
Under his leadership, the Company’s Xfinity products are now delivered over one converged, fiber-rich network. In 2012, IDG’s InfoWorld recognized John with a Technology Leadership Award in the Technology Deployment category for his role as the strategic architect and designer of Comcast’s network, systems and service delivery infrastructure platforms that deliver Xfinity products to more than 22 million cable customers, 18 million high-speed Internet customers and 9 million voice customers.
Prior to joining Comcast in 2006, John served as Executive Vice President of Network and Data Center Operations for America Online (AOL), with responsibility for architecture, planning, design and operation of AOL’s global network infrastructure, including the AOL service, Netscape, CompuServe, AOL web properties, messaging systems, telephony, rich media and digital streaming services. He previously held senior management, operations and engineering positions with leading technology and communications companies, including Sprint, GE Information Services and Transaction Network Services.
John holds a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from Manhattan College of Engineering in Riverdale, N.Y. He also completed General Electric’s Information Systems Management Program, an intensive two-year program combining business rotation with practical training and formal coursework in advanced information technology and systems.

Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Balan Nair is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Liberty Global. In this capacity he is responsible for
overseeing the global network, IT, and technology operations, which span two continents and over 52 million homes. He is also responsible for new product development, oversees global procurement functions and leads our Technology Investment Venture group. Mr. Nair is an executive officer of Liberty Global and sits on the company’s Executive Management Committee and Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Liberty Global in July of 2007, Mr. Nair served as AOL's chief technology officer overseeing Technology, IT, and network operations. After joining AOL in 2006, Mr. Nair led the Technology Operations organization in developing technology strategy, creating synergies, improving productivity, and increasing efficiencies.
Prior to his role at AOL, Mr. Nair spent 12 years at Qwest Communications International Inc. (Qwest), most recently as Chief Information Officer (CIO). As CIO, he was responsible for supporting Qwest's internal and external applications, legacy systems including maintenance, internal network operations, data centers, and help desk and desktop support functions. He also headed Qwest's technology management operations that included technical aspects of the company's product rollouts in broadband, video, call center technology, VoIP, and wireless, among other offerings. As Qwest's Chief Technology Officer from 2003 to 2005, he spoke often in public forums on technology and strategic topics in the telecommunications industry.
Mr. Nair sits on the board of Charter Communications, a leading cable operator in the United States, Telenet Group Holding NV, Liberty Global’s Belgium subsidiary, and on the board of Adtran Corporation. He holds a patent in systems development and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado. Mr. Nair holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, both from Iowa State University.

Mark Dzuban is continuing a career-long commitment to driving change that improves performance, reduces cost and increases customer satisfaction for the cable industry. Since joining SCTE in February 2009, he has been instrumental in positioning the organization as a leader in workforce education, energy management and other areas. Dzuban has spearheaded the expansion of educational opportunities, including new training and certification programs, e-learning courses and SCTE Leadership Institute programs with the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and the Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business. Under Dzuban, SCTE also: has instituted the SCTE Energy Management Program, the industry’s first comprehensive energy program; was named to receive a Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award; and hired its first CTO.
A 2011 recipient of the Vanguard Award, cable’s highest honor, Dzuban has been recognized throughout his career as a thought leader, particularly in the development of cable telephony and other two-way services. Working across legislative, financial and engineering areas, Dzuban pioneered the concept and market acceptance of the voice services that today contribute significantly to cable’s bottom line, and was granted a patent for an approach to enhancing cable network survivability for lifeline services such as telephony. With AT&T’s Broadband Consumer Services group, he engineered the first full-motion MSO-to-MSO video telephony call in 1993.
Dzuban began his career in 1968 as a design engineer for Vikoa, and advanced to leadership positions in such organizations as Clear Cable and Cross Country Cable. With AT&T, he drove deployment of more than 500,000 cable telephony lines after being promoted to senior vice president of AT&T Broadband Telephony Operations and Engineering. Prior to joining SCTE, he had served as Vice Chairman of Cedar Point Communications, a developer and manufacturer of innovative VoIP switching equipment. Dzuban also has served in advisory positions to a variety of vendors to the cable industry, including ARRIS, Net2Phone/IDT and Broadcom.
Dzuban served in Korea as a Combat Logistics Specialist in the United States Army. He and his wife, Shawn, now live in the Philadelphia western suburbs.

Layer 3 TV
Dave Fellows is the co-founder and chief technology officer of Layer3 TV, a next generation cable provider spearheading a new era of home media, combining the best of television, social and digital life. The company is backed by some of the most well respected names in private equity, venture capital and entertainment and will launch its first product this year.
Before launching Layer3 TV, Dave was most recently a general partner with Genovation Capital, a stage-agnostic private equity and consulting group. Previously, he was the EVP and Chief Technology Officer of Comcast, where he was responsible for the company's 15,000 engineers and technicians, a $6 Billion annual budget, and creating the architecture that delivers television, broadband and voice (the Triple Play) to more than 25 million Americans. As CTO of AT&T Broadband, he was intimately involved in its merger with Comcast in 2002.
Prior to being CTO of Comcast and AT&T Broadband, Dave was a co-founder and General Partner of Pilot House Ventures. Dave and two partners made ten investments during the four years from 1999 through 2002, investing more than $100 million and delivering a top decile IRR during the toughest technology venture market in history. Dave's companies had six exits to companies including Cisco, Motorola and Microsoft. Dave was the founding CTO of Continental Cablevision (and Media One post merger), and was first to launch cable broadband in the mid-nineties.
Dave was President of Scientific Atlanta's Transmission business from 1992-1995 and delivered much of the technology used to deliver video in both the satellite and cable. He began his career at GTE where he quickly rose through the ranks to undertake roles including Vice President of Technology and Vice President of R&D.
Dave was the Captain of the 1976 US Olympic Rowing Team. He was named Communications Engineering and Design Man of the Year, was Telephony's fiber optic visionary, and won the Vanguard Award for Technology - the Cable industry's highest award. He was the head of the CableLabs Technical Advisory Board, chair of the DOCSIS Certification Board as it developed the DOCSIS data standard, and a member of CableLabs' Board of directors.
Dave is on the Boards of Anadigics (NASD:ANAD), the Cable TV Pioneers, and several private companies and non-profit groups. He remains the chair of the Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Data Standards Subcommittee, an ANSI-approved standards setting body for data, voice, and networking standards.

Time Warner Cable
Dan Cooper serves as Vice President of Critical Infrastructure for Time Warner Cable. In this role, he is responsible for managing mission critical facilities, from planning to design and operational standards. Dan’s recent focus has been the development and implementation of a corporate critical infrastructure strategy to consolidate and improve reliability across TWC’s critical facility portfolio.
For the past four years, Dan has also served as Chairman of SCTE’s EMS Energy Management Subcommittee (EMS) and in 2012 became a member of SCTE’s Engineering Committee. EMS is responsible for identifying best practices for reducing power consumption and costs, increasing operating efficiency, and minimizing disposal effects of outdated equipment.
Dan joined TWC in 2002 after serving 16 years in various engineering and operations management roles in the telecommunications sector. His specialty is development and implementation of Data Center strategy to truly maximize the organization’s investment and is passionate about energy efficiency as it relates to critical infrastructure.
Dan holds a Master's of Science degree in Information Systems from George Mason University.

Senior Vice President, Group Technical Advisor
Theresa Hennesy is Senior Vice President and Group Technical Advisor for Engineering & Platform Services (EPS) at Comcast Cable. In this role, she is responsible for leading the EPS organization in its continuing mission of improving the customer experience, sustaining rapid growth economically, driving innovation everywhere, and maximizing efficiencies. In addition, Theresa leads Comcast’s Sourcing Management & Governance (SM&G) function, leveraging best practices and defined policies, and ensuring predictability and delivery from sourcing vendors.
Theresa is a 30-year veteran of the communications industry. Prior to joining Comcast, she served as SVP for Vonage Network Operations where she was responsible for all facets of the company’s network operations, business infrastructure and application production operations. Before Vonage, she was SVP of Technical Operations at Verisign, SVP of Global Internet Operations at Cable & Wireless USA, and held various positions for over 20 years at MCI. She is an active member of the Society of Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) and Women in Technology (WIT) and is on the board of the WIT Philadelphia chapter. Theresa also serves as a mentor and sponsor for the First Robotics program. She is originally from the Washington Metro Area and studied at George Mason University.

Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE)
Derek has been with SCTE for over 15 years and is responsible for managing the SCTE’s Energy Management Program. Derek is helping drive Energy 2020 a component of the Energy Management Program that has focused initiatives on five areas: Facilities, Plant, Operations, Technology, and Marketing/Regulatory. Energy 2020 will envision and enable what energy will look like for cable in the year 2020.
Also under Derek’s leadership, SCTE at its Exton Pennsylvania headquarters has seen a dramatic 50% reduction in the dependency of grid-supplied power. Key projects contributing to this savings include: installation of 25 kW DC solar photovoltaic (PV) system; LED lighting research and replacement project; private cloud deployment via server virtualization; and power efficient computer deployment to all of SCTE’s staff. Derek is also project manager for the Energy Management Subcommittee (EMS) in the SCTE Standards program. The EMS is responsible for recommended practices and standards pertaining to energy reduction and system availability in cable systems.
Derek is also a subject matter expert to SCTE’s information systems team and holds a Master’s of Science degree in Telecommunications and Network Management from Syracuse University.

Paul Carr is Director of Design, Build & Deployment for Virgin Media. In his role, he oversees detailed design and implementation of data, transmission and voice core network infrastructure and the management of outsource delivery partners.
In addition, Paul also has the responsibility for planning, engineering, build and second level support of the organization’s data center, backbone, core and hub technical sites as well as the management of Virgin Media’s technical site and access network energy budget. Under his leadership, the most recent technical site climate optimization program gained recognition through an EMEA regional industry award for data center efficiency.
Paul has worked at Virgin Media since its formation in 2007 working in the Engineering Division and performing several roles responsible for the Plan, Design & Build of the core network infrastructure in the UK.
Prior to his role at Virgin Media, Paul spent over 30 years working in various technical and management roles with major operators including NTL, Cable & Wireless and Mercury Communications. Paul holds a Master of Business Administration from The Open University.

Simpson Cumba, Jr.

Comcast Cable, Inc.
Simpson has been with Comcast for over 10 years and held various positions within the company. In his current role Simpson’s organization manages data center floor operations and critical infrastructure for the company’s National Data Center footprint as well as shaping its strategy. He is a key contributor to Comcast’s energy management approach and integrating that into strategic data center efforts. Simpson serves on the Delaware Valley 7x24 board of directors and is Working Group Chairing Alternate Energy Sources and Energy Management Integration initiatives within the Energy 2020 Program.

Time Warner Cable
An employee for Time Warner Cable since 2005, Chris serves as Senior Director Edge Critical Infrastructure (CI) for Time Warner Cable. Chris has extensive experience in design, implementation and management of critical facilities ranging from data centers to hub sites. Chris and his team are responsible for strategy, planning, engineering and operations of 1100+ headends and hub sites across the TWC national footprint focusing on providing uninterrupted customer services, high availability operations and optimized efficiencies. With a background in Computer Science and extensive experience in both Systems Operations and Critical Infrastructure, Chris is a subject matter expert for TWC CI monitoring efforts and a leader in the organizations efforts to drive the future of Critical Infrastructure management for the Cable Telecommunications industry. Chris presented TWC’s CI monitoring strategy at SCTE Expo 2013 titled, "Harnessing the Power of Data."
Chris graduated Cum Laude from Oswego State University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. Chris was awarded the Obele Van Dyk Outstanding Computer Science Senior Award in his final year.

Ivan Lamoureux is the Vice President of Network Engineering at Suddenlink Communications. He leads the Engineering teams responsible for DOCSIS® Engineering, Wi-Fi, Network Capacity Management, Reporting and Analytics, Circuit Management and Access Networks (including OSP Design and Standards).
He has over 17 years of Network Engineering experience at cable MSOs in both Canada and the U.S. His areas of interest include Network Architecture, Reporting and Analytics and Software Defined Networking.
Ivan has a degree in Computing Science from the University of Alberta and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Daniel Marut, Esq.
Principal Software Engineer,
Systems Engineering Division
Daniel joined Comcast Cable in 2010 as a Principal Engineer within the Systems Engineering Division to improve customer experience through automated order management. He also works as a liaison between engineering groups and the Strategic Intellectual Property team as part of the Innovation Leader Program for intellectual property development. He often volunteers as a mentor for the FIRST® Robotics program, and for the Comcast co-op Innovators training program.
Prior to Joining Comcast Cable, he worked for the United States Patent and Trademark Office examining international patent applications; including software, business methods, electrical and mechanical engineering related patents. Early in his career, Daniel worked as a cable plant surveyor in the Philadelphia area to document cable infrastructure. He has over 16 years of hands-on industry experience in the software development and engineering fields. He is a graduate from the Temple University Beasley School of Law and completed his graduate work within the College of Information Science and Technology, and the College of Engineering at Drexel University, combining the fundamentals of software and building systems earning Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering and Information Systems. He completed his undergraduate work at Drexel University in a dual degree engineering program.

Bright House Networks
David Stokely has worked in various fiscal capacities at Bright House Networks for almost 10 years. Starting as a Capital Controller in 2005, David was responsible for all capital investments and preparing and balancing the capital budget. In his newest role directing Sustainability efforts for the entire company, David makes sure that efficiencies in all departments, from fleet, to facilities, to recycling, make fiscal sense while being socially responsible. Prior to working for Bright House, David spent 7 years with T-Mobile as a regional finance manager and was also a PGA golf professional. David holds a Finance degree from Florida State University and is a life member of the PGA of America.

Senior Engineer, Network Facilities
Rogers Wireline Canada
John Dolan is the Senior Engineer for Network Facilities in Rogers Wireline, a division of Rogers. In this role he develops the network standards and practices used to build or expand all Wireline technical sites. This role also involves reducing the energy requirement and carbon footprint in technical sites as part of the overall Rogers company goals for sustainability.
John has worked for Rogers for 35 years starting in network maintenance and then moving on to implementation where he managed the construction and turn up of technical sites. He then joined the Engineering group where he was the design manager technical facilities and of high-speed transport systems.
A graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Electrical Engineering, John lives in London, Ontario, Canada.
